Saftler’s 2008 Summer Quilt Challenge
“Summer Reading”

Each person is challenged to create a quilt that is inspired by a favorite book. The form this inspiration takes is up to you (impressions, literal representation of a certain scene, etc.). Remember that you must honor copyright laws and not recreate something published in the book (a photo, a picture, etc.). The book is supposed to inspire your quilt; your quilt is not supposed to borrow its design directly from the book.

Here are the rules:
There is no size restriction on this challenge. Your quilt can be as big or as small as you like. It must, however, be quilted, with a top, a layer of some type of filler, and a back. Please provide some method of hanging the quilt (a sleeve, etc).

There is no challenge fabric involved...the challenge is to take the inspiration from literature and turn it into a quilt.

There are no specifications about numbers of fabric, embellishments, etc...this is all up to you!

You do need to provide the title of the book, the author, and the date of publication. Although the title of this challenge is "Summer Reading," it does not have to be a book you read this summer...it can be any favorite book you have read, whether recent or in the past. You must include a description on a piece of paper that can be pinned to the front of the quilt that tells a little bit about the book that inspired it and how your quilt reflects that inspiration.

Quilts will be hung for public viewing in the store from September 5th to September 20th. Please drop off your quilt and description by August 30th . You are responsible for picking up your quilt by September 27th. Make sure your quilt has a label on the back with your name, address, and phone number.

Prizes will be awarded!!
